We recall that it has been 50 years since the declaration of the State of Biafra and the ensuing 3 years civil war that led to unprecedented bloodshed. The civil war left deep scars on the landscape and conscience of Nigeria. The civil war in a profound way negatively changed the dynamics of Nigeria’s economic, political and social development. We also recall recent events which have reopened the wounds and scars of the war and brought back the issues of Biafra and societal justice. 50 years after the unfortunate event presents an opportunity for resetting the buttons and re-ordering our national priorities on the basis of respect for the fundamental issues of federalism, justice, equity, and the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms for all.

The apparent commercialization of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Nigeria, appears to be manifesting a dangerous trend in our body polity. The stock in trade of these organizations has always been to appear to be projecting a lofty ideals capable of complementing the agenda of government in power, then, seek partnership with government establishments they feel are in line with their mission and vision; once the partnership collaboration is turned down by any of the establishments they approached, they go for the jugular of leadership of such organization. The problem with these NGOs is that they don’t care to know if what they are seeking for is captured in the budget. When you even talk of recession to them, you anger them the more. To them, you must give them money anytime they come around.

News Release: Buhari’s 2yrs In Office: A Celebration Of First Of The Firsts In Failed Governance Records In Nigeria Since 1960
The leadership of Int’l Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law has always maintained that the best way to measure or assess the records or performances of public governance in Nigeria carried out by successive and present Federal and State Governments, whether military, civilian or diarchy, since the country’s independence in 1960, is to embark on factual, realistic and comparative assessment of Nigeria with its peers in South America, Asia, Middle East and some African countries. Such comparative governance assessors must also be grounded with what modern public governance is all about or its core essence.

It is recalled that the leadership of Int’l Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law (Intersociety) had on 12th, 14th and 15th of May 2017 issued parts one, two and three of its public statement, titled: the return of troublesome billionaires and killer-“generals” in Anambra State. The 15th May 2017 segment of the statement was specifically and statistically targeted at exposing killer-“generals” and violent market leaders and their violent activities in the State so as to draw the attention of the general public and relevant security agencies against the allied security threats and the forthcoming governorship election in the State. The said public statement of ours and its parts was chiefly brought about by: increasing activities of troublesome billionaires in the State who have also pocketed strategic conventional security formations in the State and at Enugu, Umuahia and Abuja; violent activities of some killer-“generals” and violent market leaders such as wanton demolition of citizens’ private houses and properties without recourse to due process and rule of law (i.e. Okpuno-Nkwelle-Ezunaka Estate property demolition); and 2017 Anambra governorship election war drums of the incumbent Government of Anambra State.

The profound victory which Chief James Onanefe Ibori won on Monday against the British Home Secretary must be not be understated. This was not about the £1 nominal damages but the significantly greater victory over just how the UK political establishment blatantly attempted to restrain a free man. The victory was greater for the principle. Ibori’s Media Assistant, Tony Eluemunor said in a statement that “some media outfits, focused their reports on the frivolous, and disdained the serious mocking the £1, nominal damages. In doing so they missed the obvious – how again Chief Ibori was victimised and oppressed by the UK government and how a British High Court found in his favour and maligned the British Crown Prosecution Services (CPS) failures.

When the English lawyer Peter Benenson defined "prisoner of conscience" in _The Observer_ of 28 May 1961, as “any person who is physically restrained (by imprisonment or otherwise) from expressing (in any form of words or symbols any opinion which he honestly holds and which does not advocate or condone personal violence”, he probably had Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky in mind.

For the Sumerians the word “Mumu’’ means creative reason, in other words, that which creates all things. The Babylonian priests see the god Marduk as the creator of the world. Marduk was identified with the word “Mumu’’. The early Greeks of the Milesian school of philosophy said: “the cosmic substance is reason, wisdom and harmony. This corresponds to the qualities attributed to the word “Mumu’’ by the much earlier Babylonians. But in Nigeria the word is a slang used to describe a person who acts daft. The musician Lagbaja did a song with the word, a touching and meaningful song. He said our leaders have turned us in this country into 200 million “Mumus’’. He said Nigerians are selling their birthrights for a bowl of soup like Esau, destroying their legacy for small change.

A closed source alarm raised yesterday(04-05-2017) by Deputy Senate President (DSP), Ike Ekweremadu, LLB, BL; at the floor of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria concerning leaked plans by the authorities of the Federal Government through its EFCC agents to plant large sums of money domiciled in different foreign and local currencies as well as ammunitions in a dwelling house or property linked to him; with intent to frame him up or rope him in; are not only weighty and alarming, but also a vindication of Intersociety over its recent advocacy positions concerning mafia like policy and conducts of the Buhari Administration under the guise of anti corruption crusade. It is also a clear confirmation of the fact that the current anti corruption policy of the Buhari Administration is gravely haunted by terminal sicknesses.

April 29th this year was a Saturday. It was my birthday and friends came to wish me well. It rained, not very much really but it was pretty cold outside. The tiny "rain" caused so much traffic delays. My friends who live inside town were screwed. One of them who only live 12 miles away from my place had a three hour drive to my home. Another got stuck on some odious bus that wasn't moving anywhere and took nearly two hours to reach my place. And it took yet another person three and a half hours. My God!
