Article: Interpreting The 'Change' We Voted For!
By abiodun KOMOLAFE
The world had barely settled down to the reality of Brexit when Donald Trump trounced Hillary Clinton to clinch victory in an election that would eventually shame the power of opinion polls. Trump purportedly played a fast one on unsuspecting Americans and the world was left to grapple with 'Trump Trauma'. A few weeks after, Fidel Castro was done with the wildness of this world and the world, with the exception of those who felt threatened by his Marxist-Leninist disposition, mourned the passing of a great humanist. Along the line, Yahya Jammeh happened to our democratic psyche and that tragically revived memories of sit-tightism that has all along been the bane of our Africanness. Elsewhere in Europe, Italy stunned the world with a referendum which, though looked and sounded marginal in shape and size, has, in all the important ways, changed the face of global politics. And, uninterested in being uncounted, Nigeria continues to grapple with recession even as economic juggernauts catwalk excuses!

Article: President Buhari Did The Right Thing About Magu

Magu |
By Uche Ugboajah
The news that President Muhammadu Buhari has resubmitted the name of Ibrahim Magu to the Senate for confirmation as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), is indeed a very cheery one. Cheery in the sense that the presidency has not only done the right thing but is also beginning to understand the logic and the doctrines of presidential power in a democracy.

Donald John Trump is finally the president of the United States of America. Expectedly, there is a palpable tension around the world. The Americans themselves have remained apprehensive. Countries in the East and the West are gripped in fervent fear. Even those in Africa are not left behind, all quivering as if they have never encountered an American horror movie before. Nigeria, however, must not expose itself to the flitting phobia. As Mr. Trump himself would say, what the hell do we have to lose?

News Release: The Unbelievable Denial By Rivers State Police Commissioner
![]() |
Adebanjo |
The world is held aghast at the barefaced lies and unbelievable denial by Mr. Foluso A. Adebanjo, the Rivers State Police Commissioner, concerning the massacre of Biafrans who came out on Friday, January 20th, 2017 to rally in support of Mr. Donald J. Trump, the 45th President of the United States of America. In his denial speech, Mr. Adebanjo could not even differentiate between a protest and a rally, hence his ignorant reference to Biafrans‘ rally as a “protest.“ Given the antecedents of the uncouth and ill-trained Nigerian Policemen and other security agencies, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu published a letter which it sent to the Police Authorities in Rivers State which notified them of the upcoming rally.

Article: Stupid $15m Bribery Allegation Against Ibori
![]() |
Ibori |
By Tony Eluemunor.
The former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Nuhu Ribadu, has travelled the world just to dress himself in borrowed and sanctimonious plumes; that he rejected a $15m bribe from Chief James Onanefe Ibori. Yet, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has demolished Ribadu’s allegation by offering a new vista of looking at Ribadu’s claims. Obasanjo said in his own book, “My Watch” (volume two) that he harassed Ibori to refund some money to Delta State and that even before the money came, he had opened an account at the CBN to warehouse the funds. Then, when the money was given to Ribadu, he asked Ribadu to treat it either as bribe or restitution – “any way” he liked. So, Obasanjo even claimed to have been aware of the money before it went to Ribadu.

As some of the most disagreeable voices on and off the floor of the senate had threatened when the National Assembly was on recess, the so-called red chamber, on resumption, made good the recurrent ominous assertions by these elements. In a move that seemed like the senate was being propelled by a vengeful demon, Ali Ndume was removed as the senate leader. To say the least, his ouster had nothing to do with due process. It was a classic clinical act laced with all the ingredients of perfidy for which the current senate is notorious.

Àrticle: The Problem With Buhari’s Whistle-Blowing Policy
By SKC Ogbonnia
President Buhari’s new policy on whistle-blowing is revolutionary. Its goal is to broaden the attack on corruption by encouraging the general public to expose corrupt practices. The government will in turn reward those whose revelations result in recovery of funds or assets. The mere fact that the corrupt arm of the Nigerian Senate is already angling to oppose the initiative is a whistling indication that the policy is geared towards the general good.

In deference to the dictates of the Holy Book, it is not my practice to jump into issues, especially, when they are laced with politics. However, turning the other eye is always not an option when an organization abandons its core mandate to regale an unsuspecting public with very tepid, hurtfully unfactual and sillily inaccurate assertions that are capable of igniting conflagrations of unimaginable proportion.

On the 11th of January 2017, we (the undersigned) on behalf of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), gave Raphael Lebeanya Uwazuruike four days to provide evidence to support his claim that Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB members are fraudsters who are out to deceive gullible people. We further discovered that Uwazuruike stated on TheCable.ng online news media that: “When I met him (Kanu) in London he had no job and no certificate; he was into internet crime.”

Dear Malia & Sasha,
Malia and Sasha, eight years ago on a cold November day, we greeted you on the steps of the White House. We saw both the light and wariness in your eyes as you gazed at your new home. We left our jobs in Baltimore and New York early and traveled to Washington to show you around. To show you the Lincoln Bedroom, and the bedrooms that were once ours, to introduce you to all the people—the florists, the grounds-keepers and the butlers—who dedicate themselves to making this historic house a home. The four of us wandered the majestic halls of the house you had no choice but to move in to. When you slid down the banister of the solarium, just as we had done as 8-year-olds and again as 20-year-olds chasing our youth, your joy and laughter were contagious.

I'm dropping this quick note because Sowore violated the idea of reconciliation suggested to the Police by his team of lawyers and supporters led by the elder statesman, Dr. Tunji Abayomi on Thursday. Sowore was at the Panti Police station with about 15 lawyers . I didn't go with any because I didn't need to. I know my case against him is incontrovertible!

He wrote: “Season Three, I call it ‘The Journey’, started in 2010 when the government of President Goodluck Jonathan re-opened the case and Ibori, in an attempt to escape another trial, ran to Dubai”.

Rejoinder: IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB Leaders Not Fraudsters
![]() |
Kanu |
On behalf of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and the entire Biafrans, we are giving Raphael Lebeanya Uwazuruike four days to provide evidence that Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB under the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu are fraudsters. The Punch newspaper on January 10, 2017, reported that Raphael Lebeanya Uwazuruike “described Nnamdi Kanu and his IPOB as fraudsters who are out to deceive gullible people.“ We in IPOB at this moment demand that Uwazuruike must provide evidence to prove that Nnamdi and IPOB members under his leadership are fraudsters. Uwuzuruike’s evidence must be proven beyond every reasonable doubt. The evidence must not be anecdotal or mere conjecture, but verifiable and provable acts of fraud carried out by either Mazi Nnamdi Kanu or members of IPOB.

Article: Those Behind Ibori’s Travails And Their Reason
![]() |
Ibori |
Mr. Simon Kolawole, in “The Welcome Party For Ibori” article (THISDAY newspaper of Sunday December 25, 2016, decried the massive celebrations Chief James Onanefe Ibori’s release from UK jail elicited. He adjudged the celebrations “spontaneous and sincere” but listed several reasons he found them appalling; thus repeating the falsehoods the manipulated mass media has been unleashing against Ibori. In “Why Supporters Celebrated Ibori’s Release” (backpage of 1st January 2017 THISDAY newspaper”) I relied on court records alone to show the documentary evidence the Nigerian judiciary relied on to conclude that the Bwari Upper Area Court judgment that claimed to have convicted one James Onanefe Ibori was a forgery. A case concerning Shuabu Anyebe, a night watchman who could not account for two bundles of zinc was doctored to read James Ibori’s and the amount changed from N10,000 to N110 million.
