The heart of the leadership of International
Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law (Intersociety) is filled
with joy and encouragement concerning the latest grounded judgment of the
Supreme Court with respect to Rivers State Governorship Election Petition. We
also congratulate Governors David Umahi of Ebonyi State and Akinkumni Ambode of
Lagos State and people of the two States as well as others over their recent
electoral victories at the Supreme Court; fundamentally anchored on the fact
that “use of card-readers cannot validly be used to invalidate the
results of an election as it is conspicuously not provided in the 2010
Electoral Act or the 1999 Constitution”.

News Release: Nigeria Is A Country Without Sound Population & Industrial Census & National Planning In The Past 63 Years
One of the social maladies, if not the worse,
bedeviling Nigeria of present socio-political dispensation is lack of sound
general census (population and industrial) and national planning. This
is compounded by lack of visionary political leadership and statesmanship. To the extent that on mere mentioning or
appearance of a president of a country on international scenes; its national
currency instantly loses value in money market; speaks of the enormity of
the disaster of having a tinkerer as president; as opposed to other social
climes where emergence of a visionary, thinker and statesman as president
instantly leads to valuation of its national currency in money market and
positive recoveries in its economy. In other words, Nigeria under the present
civilian administration of Gen Muhammadu Buhari fundamentally lacks vision,
statesmanship and sound national planning built on scientific and statistically
grounded population and industrial census.

News Release: Demand For Justice For The Killing Of Students In Zaria
It is now over one month since the Nigerian Army launched a
coordinate brutal attack on members of Islamic Movement in Nigeria,
IMN, that killed hundreds of people in Zaria after over 27 hours of indiscriminate shooting and bombing by the Army. Despite
this display of inhumanity and gross violation of fundamental human
rights, to which no remorse was shown by the state authorities for what
was undoubtedly a war crime against fellow Nigerians, the home
of the revered leader of the Movement Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, two
Islamic Centers and the Cemetery/Film Village were demolished with
graves dug up and desecrated by the Kaduna state government.
Article: PDP Is Too Corrupt And Too Sick To Lead The Opposition
By SKC Ogbonnia, Ph.D
It is a common knowledge that any government without
credible opposition is open to dictatorship and abuse of power. Recently, there
was an array of hope for Nigeria . For
all intents and purposes, Nigerians had witnessed a formidable opposition
activity by the time for the 2015 elections. But that is no longer the case.
The current main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party of Nigeria
(PDP), has turned out to be too corrupt and too sick to play a leading role.

Article: EFCC Vs Reactionary Elite
By Chido Onumah &Godwin Onyeacholem
Slowly but
steadily, the ultra conservative wing of Nigeria’s largely self-absorbed and
callous elite is spoiling for a fight. And it’s all about the renewed war
against corruption which has induced in this group an emotion that can only be
described as culture shock. As a result, the unconstructive and clearly combative
reaction to a developmentthat ordinarily should be applauded and encouraged by
anyone who means well forthis country is no less unexpected.
News Release: In Defense Of FCT Chief Judge & Rule Of Law
![]() |
Hon Justice Ishaq Bello |
The attention of the leadership of International
Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law has been drawn to public
condemnations by a section of legal practitioners and civil society
organizations based in Southwest Nigeria; strongly believed to be sympathetic
to the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. The condemnations are with
respect to a directive recently handed down by the Chief Judge of the Federal
Capital Territory, Hon Justice Ishaq Bello to all serving magistrates within
the Federal Capital Territory to henceforth stop issuing remand orders to
the operatives of the Economic & Financial Crimes Commission with
respect to arrest and detention of citizens accused of committing economic and
financial crimes in Nigeria; which are investigated and prosecuted by EFCC
under its Act of 2004.
News Release: We Decry Goc 1 Div’s Meeting With Islamic Scholars
The Islamic Movement in Nigeria IMN
is aware of a meeting organized on 14th January 2016 by the General Officer
Commanding 1 Mechanized Division Major General Adeniyi Oyebade, with members of
some Islamic sects and some Muslim Chieftaincy title holders in Kaduna, where
the GOC made all efforts to convince them of the justification of killing over
1000 members of the Islamic Movement. After which he gave them N500,000. The
GOC carefully selected Wahabi sect scholars that have always rivalled the IMN
and operated campaigns of calumny and concocted lies against the IMN, to
commune in finding ways to wipe out the Islamic Movement and seek their support
in that. He constructed a story to convince the scholars and chiefs that the
Army acted angelic and that he pleaded with the members of the Movement all
through to surrender for a cordon and search operation, which the IMN resisted.
News Release: Tompolo’s Evasion Of Court Summons Is One Of The Dangers Of Buhari Administration’s Contempt For Rule Of Law In Nigeria
![]() |
Tompolo |
It is now a season of vindication for the leadership of
International Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law concerning the
full graduation of the democratically chained administration of President
Muhammadu Buhari from ballot box to barrel of gun. According to the Shasta and
the Legist Schools of Jurisprudential Thoughts of ancient India and China
respectively; a society not popularly governed by law is a society of anarchy
and lawlessness. And such society is said to be popularly governed by law if
respect for its law starts from its political office holders and the same law
evenly made and evenly applied. Selective and vindictive application of law is
a clear invitation to anarchy!

Today: 14th January 2016; marks 90th day since Citizen
Nnamdi Kanu was arrested by the DSS in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria and taken into
its underground custody in Abuja, North-central Nigeria; and held without trial
or conditional (bail) release or unconditional release till date. The arrest
and detention of Citizen Nnamdi Kanu and their circumstances are in grave
violation of all known constitutional, regional and international conventional

President Muhammadu Buhari and his DSS are the provisions of Section 35 (4) (a)
(b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as well as
Sections 293, 295 and 296 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJ)

News Release: Fiscal Policy Reversal By Buhari’s CBN
It is longer news, anew or a boast that the South-south and
the Southeast Geopolitical Zones are Nigeria’s socio-economic survival and
bread-winners. It is also a truism that 60% if not 70% of the Lagos State’s economic
and wealth potentials are controlled by the enterprising sons and daughters of
the Southeast Zone. In the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, 80% of resources
used in developing the area came from oil and gas proceeds exploited in the
Niger Delta or South-south Geopolitical Zone and 70% of private properties
built and owned by serving and former political office holders; whether
illicitly or genuinely acquired; have their direct origins linked with Niger
Delta gas and oil proceeds (both criminally and officially earned) and 70% of
the wealth of the northern rich men and women including oil bloc owners
originated from natural resources of Old Eastern Region of Nigeria.

News Release: How Nnamdi Kanu & Ors’ Case File Was Doctored & Polluted By DSS Using Some Hostile Nigerian Media Outfits
![]() |
Kanu |
It is our investigative and analytical finding that the
original Case File of Citizen Nnamdi Kanu and Ors; handled by DSS, has been
doctored, tempered with and handed over to the hostile-media for the purpose of
mocking the judiciary and carrying out trial and conviction by ordeal through
the media. The Case File now has various
versions and filled with doctored and foreign statements; falsely credited to Citizen
Nnamdi Kanu and his co-falsely accused by DSS. A copy of the doctored and
manipulated Case File is presently in possession of the Chief Judge of the
Federal High Court for re-assignment to a new Judge following the aborted
arraignment and commencement of trial of Citizen Nnamdi Kanu and ors on 23rd
December 2015. The polluted Case File has remained with the Chief Judge of FHC
for 15 days or over two weeks without being assigned to a new Judge. It is also
our strong suspicion that the version now in possession of the Chief Judge may
most likely have been doctored and manipulated by subversive agents coordinated
by the DSS.

News Release: A Call For Court Boycott By NBA & Others

Kanu |
It
is no longer a subject of grammatical, political, legal and public debate
whether or not Nigeria of
Buhari’s civilian presidency is tyrannical-cum-dictatorial; as the country is fully back
in dictatorship or chained
democracy. Nigerians
should also not lose sleep or express surprises over recent or ongoing public
antics and pro-dictatorial comments of the Attorney General of the Federation,
Mallam Abubakar Malami, SAN, and the likes of Prof Itse Sagay, SAN and Senator
Ali Ndume, Senate Majority Leader; rather all Nigerians particularly the
Nigerian Bar Association and other democratic forces should concern themselves
sleeplessly with how to rise up endlessly against the resurrected dictatorship
and its destructive forces.

Article: Shias, Northern Governors And The Future Of Northern Nigeria
By Aliyu Smith Almusawi
An axiomatic quote has it that
"An age is called dark not because the light fails to shine but because
people refuse to see it". The future of northern Nigeria hangs in the
balance, the inhabitants think the greatest threat to their future isn't Boko
Haram's campaign of terror whose six years's of bloody insurgency has resulted
in the deaths of more than 30 thousands people, they think their future is not
threatened by the encroachment of Salafism with a bizarre ideology that has
been destabilising virtually every Muslim country.
News Release: Nnamdi Kanu Was Never Released & Rearrested By DSS
![]() |
Kanu |
The leadership
of International Society for Civil
Liberties & the Rule of Law is deeply dismayed concerning brazen
falsehood being spread by the Presidency of Muhammadu Buhari and its procured
agents, saying that Citizen Nnamdi Kanu was recently released and rearrested for charges of
treasonable felony and four other lesser charges. We are not surprised
at such falsehood and its originators; the Buhari’s administration,
particularly owing to the fact that the foundation of the administration is
laid on incurable falsehood and propaganda.
