Article: Details Of Imo State Council Funds Squandered By Governor Rochas Okorocha

Governor Rochas Okorocha |
By
Kenneth Uwadi
I must confess that we are approaching the end of Governor Okorocha’s
tenure and he has completely failed to meet the hopes and aspirations of
unemployed youths in Imo State. Even the democratic rights which the poor
working masses of Imo State enjoyed during the last administration of the state
were withheld by this authoritarian Governor. May 2011 till date have shown a
monumental failure of the capitalist thieving Governor Okorocha who has proved
to be incapable in the areas of youth empowerment, health care and
infrastructural development. This is in spite of the fact that the mentioned
years witnessed the longest run of oil money in the history of Imo. In other
words, the state got very huge financial allocation from FG in Okorocha’s
tenure , much more than any period since the history of Imo State. But there
has been nothing fundamental to show for it in term of employment,
infrastructure and grass root development.

Article: Derivation, Revenue Allocation Formula In Nigeria And The Contrived Crisis
By Jaye Gaskia
The
contrived crisis which blew up and raised sensational storm over the report of
the committee on devolution of powers at the recently concluded national
conference brings to light in clear relief the fixation of the ruling elites
and its various factions on unfettered access to the treasury in order to
enable their treasury looting capabilities and dispensation.

General Information: In early February 2014, our organization (International Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law) discovered existing ethno-religious domination in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). The discovery was in respect of promotion of senior police officers carried out constitutionally by the Police Service Commission (PSC) and operational posting and assignment of duties, which are constitutionally performed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP). The discovery was also made in respect of the lopsided arrangement of names of serving senior police officers ranging from CSPs to DIGs.

News Release: Intersociety Rejects Exclusion Of South-East From Headship Of Police Zonal Commands
Having studied the August 23rd
redeployment of newly promoted Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) and
Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) to various academic,
administrative and operational NPF formations across the country, as ordered by
the Acting Inspector General of Police (A-IGP), Suleiman A. Abba, we wish to
reject and oppose the non-inclusion of an AIG of the Southeast extraction among
heads of the NPF’s 12 Zonal Commands in Nigeria. By the provisions of the
Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, the Inspector General of
Police whether acting or substantive is the Chief Operational Head of the NPF
and in exercise of such constitutional power; he or she must be guided by
equity, fairness and pluralistic considerations. This is the plain requirement
of Section 14 (3) of the Constitution. While the Police Service Commission
promotes, transfers and disciplines police officers other than IGP, the IGP
posts and operationalizes all police officers (from Constable to DIG) as well
as all 6,651 police institutions and formations across the country.

News Release: Intersociety Commends INEC
The leadership of International Society for Civil Liberties
& the Rule of Law (Intersociety) has observed a remarkable improvement by
the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as it concerns the just
ended Permanent Voters Card distribution exercise conducted in 12 States of
Anambra, Ebonyi, Delta, Cross River, Ondo, Oyo, Kwara, Yobe, Bauchi, Jigawa,
Sokoto and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The exercise, originally slated
for August 15th to 17th was extended by two days as a result of protests by
some members of rights based CSOs and other electoral stakeholders in Nigeria
including our organization (Intersociety). The exercise finally ended on
Tuesday, August 19th 2014 with substantial improvement on the part of INEC. We
wish to commend INEC for this appreciable feat and demand for more improvements
in other spheres of its electoral industry.
Article: Imo State Government And Crisis In Ohaji/Egbema
By Kenneth Uwadi
Governor Rochas Okorocha’s second term ambition has thrown
Imolites at the crossroads, thereby shooting the State’s political temperature
to one of its most frightening levels in our political history. Obviously, the
Governor is facing the biggest credibility crisis of his political life.
A man who in 2011 was widely perceived as a unifying force by Imolites
and enthusiastically elected to the State’s highest public office, is
sadly today treated with distrust and detestation by fellow citizens. What
could have been wrong that a governor who had enjoyed enormous support in
2011 is today more tolerated than loved by majority of Ndi-Imo ? The
answer is simple. Imo people are not happy with the impunity going on in the
state.
News Release: Intersociety Celebrates Nigerian Police Force Promotions
“A vibrant conventional police force
in a mixed or heterogeneous society is such that clearly understands its
pluralistic nature and have it strictly applied in all its policies including
promotions, postings and modern crime fighting and controlling capacities. Such
a police force is doomed if it chooses the opposite”- Barrister Anita Onochie,
Head, Security & Safety Program of the Intersociety. “It is very shocking
that the NPF has over the years abandoned rule of law, fairness and equity in
its major internal and external policies including promotion and posting of its
top field officers and dangerously embraced ethno-religious jingoism. Its
abysmal performance in modern crime control and fighting is not surprising and
will remain so until it purges itself of tribal, baton and rifle policing and
return to policing without borders and lineages”-Barr. Obianuju Igboeli, Head,
Civil Liberties & Rule of Law Program of the Intersociety.

The former Governor of Abia State, Chief Orji
Uzor Kalu has a way of treating issues. Those who have been following his
column in the Saturdays Sun would understand that the man bares his mind
without fear or favour. This is the reason I am writing concerning his article
in the Saturday Sun, 16 August, where he brought the attention of the world to
the allegation that the incumbent Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State has been
smearing his name, that of his family members and anything around and about him
to the extent that the governor now sends people to lay siege at his residences
in Lagos and Abuja, monitoring who visits Kalu and who does not visit.

the international business man, renowned peace-maker and ex-governor of Abia
State does understand is that while he is persecuted unjustly by his perceived
political foes, he is closest to his biggest miracle on earth.
