Article: Why Are Igbos Still Biafrans?

By Adagbo Onoja

In his latest book entitled, We Are All Biafrans, Chido Onumah offers a very powerful discourse of Nigeria by imposing on the observable claims of marginalisation by every other group against the Nigerian State the metaphor of Biafranism. Every other group is selling that narrative about its own place in the Nigerian set up. In other words, they are doing what the Igbos took to a very high level in the late 1960s by declaring sovereignty, a move to which the Nigerian State responded by declaring a police action.

News Release: IPOB & Other Nonviolent Pro Biafra Activists In Danger In Nigeria

The leadership of International Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law (Intersociety) is still deeply shocked and alarmed concerning the continued detention under solitary or incommunicado circumstances of key IPOB activists in Aba, Abia State and other parts of the South-south and the Southeast Nigeria. To the extent that the authorities of the DSS now go about riotously, abducting, shooting, torturing and detaining IPOB activists outside processes and procedures laid down in the 1999 Constitution; further shocks and worries us.

News Release: News Release: Presidential Emergency Powers Legitimization Request Is Another Time-Bomb

The attention of the International Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law (Intersociety) is again drawn to a recent presidential request for legitimization of emergency powers which it magisterially and tyrannically arrogated to itself since September 2015. President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has since September 2015 castrated the 1999 Constitution and illegally arrogated sweeping extra constitutional powers to itself in the governance of the country; upon which it now seeks for legislative legitimization through retroactive legislation or legislative cementation by way of executive sponsored bill. Our advocacy attention to latest executive lawlessness was drawn by the authorities of the Trent Online News. Since the inception of Gen Muhammadu Buhari’s administration on 29th May 2015, time-bombs abound and the instant case is one of them.

News Release: Only IPOB Members Were Massacred On May 30th 2016

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) want to put the records straight by affirming that only IPOB members were massacred by armed security team led Col Isa M. Abdullahi, the Commanding Officer of 302 Artillery Regiment Onitsha which is under 82 Division of the Nigerian Army. We are making this clarification because of the falsehood reported by Terhemba Daka of the Guardian Newspaper. According to Terhemba’s erroneous report of 23rd August 2016, “The House of Representatives Committee on Army has started collating information on the alleged killing of members of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) by security agencies in Anambra State on May 30, 2016.“ Terhemba further stated that “Biafran agitators clashed with security agencies, during the 50th anniversary of their fallen heroes near St. Edmund’s Catholic Church, Nkpor, off Nkpor -Umuoji road, in Idemili North Local Government Council.“ This is the height of irresponsible and unprofessional conduct in journalism and a crass display of the notorious “brown envelope“ journalism.

News Release: “Don’t Dialogue With Criminals”---MEND To Nigerian Govt.

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) welcomes the recent decision by the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) to ceasefire and dialogue with the Federal Government. It is a move we have repeatedly canvassed since April, 2016; given our stance that, criminal attacks on oil installations as a strategy to force concessions from Government was no longer fashionable. Given also, the fact that MEND have since May 30, 2014 ceased all forms of hostility against Nigeria's economic and strategic assets.

Article: Is This The Change Nigerians Voted For?

By Godwin Onyeacholem

In the light of almost two decades of horrendous governance under the PDP administration, the call for change by a large section of Nigerians was expectedly overwhelmingly loud. Thus, this piece is a response to Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, who indeed holds the copyright to the first leg of the title of this piecewhich I have slightly modified – as can be seen in his latest defence of President Muhammadu Buhari’s APC administration.

News Release: Secrets Of Proper Treatment In The Service Center

As you know, the sipliest is some device, less often it brokes. And any gadget is something very complicated and fragile technically. Fortunately, there is a guarantee, but the average user changes old to a new device earlier than this guarantee ends. So if you belong to those lucky people who have until now there was no need to call for the  repair, you might think naively, that if anything happen, you just come to the service center with a defective device, and it immediately becomes serviceable. Ideally, theis is the way it should be, but unfortunately, in practice it often happens otherwise. There are many "pitfalls" of which we want to warn you.

Scientist Parminder Virk of the International Rice Research Institute scientist holding sample of GMO Golden Rice

By Edel-Quinn Agbaegbu

Biologists have used genetic engineering since the 1980s in crop plants to alter characteristics such as; higher vitamin content, longer shelf life and resistance to diseases. The only characteristics that have been introduced through genetic engineering into commercial use are those that confer insect resistance and herbicide resistance which were available in fewer than 10 crop species by 2015 (see reports from the Board on Agriculture and Natural Resources authoring committee).

News Release: MEND Denounces IPOB/Nnamdi Kanu Hypocrisy

The attention of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has been drawn to the recent spate of hypocritical and provocative statements issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its leader, Nnamdi Kanu which purport to dissociate IPOB/Kanu from some of the concessions which have so far been secured by MEND in the ongoing talks aimed at resolving the current Niger Delta crisis between the Federal Government and MEND.

News Release: Nnamdi Kanu Sacks Lawyers For Speaking Against Niger Delta Avengers And Misleading The Public Over Negotiations With Government

Following the press conference earlier today by our legal team, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Worldwide has been reliably and incontrovertibly informed that some of the utterances of their defence lawyers were made without consultation. These utterances border on negotiations and some were against the Niger Delta Avengers. As  as a result of this unsolicited and unguarded utterances, the defence team has been sacked and will be replaced. The IPOB leader wishes to state categorically that the only thing we are open to is negotiations that will lead to modalities and processes to restore Biafra and avert further hardships on the people of Nigeria who have been under bondage since his kidnapping and illegal detention.

News Release: Illegal Police Probe Of Padding Of The Nigeria 2016 Budget Bill

The emergence of Acting Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Kpokum Idris may have unveiled a new dogari policing for Nigeria. That is to say that the primitive Hausa-Fulani policing methods specializing in collection of taxes, guarding Emir palaces and arresting and jailing tax defaulters and others considered by Emirs as Emirate enemies, all according to whims and caprices of the Emirs, may have been brought to the fore by the Acting IGP, with two major instances being the reckless abandon with which the Acting IGP has ordered his personnel to flood Nigerian roads and retire at every evening with bagfuls of officially robbed naira notes; and the rush and speed with which he set up a five-man criminal probe panel to selectively and illegally investigate the House Speaker, Yakubu Dogara over a clearly non-criminal conduct correctly called  “Padding of the 2016 Budget Bill”; leaving behind other partakers, aiders and abetters. The action of the Acting IGP is a height of trial by ordeal and selective application of justice.

News Release: A Call To Free Senator Ike Ekweremadu From Presidential Terror & APC Toutocracy In Nigeria

Ekweremadu

Democracy triumphs where it is pillared and powered by free speeches, pluralism of opinions including political tolerance and accommodation and, most importantly; independence of judges and rights of those criminally indicted to be heard and defend themselves at all times up to Supreme Court where necessary. Democracy totally forbids infamous art of using presidential powers and political structures of a ruling party for the purpose of destroying or persecuting political opponents.

Article: The Right To Food In A Changing World Through Modern Biotechnology And The Role Of Biosafety

By Edel-Quinn Agbaegbu

Biotechnology refers to any technique that uses living organisms ranging from virus, bacteria, plants and animals or parts of the organisms to derive other products for the benefit of mankind. It is not a new technique. Traditional biotechnology such as the use of yeast to make bread or wine has been applied for thousands of years. Since the late 19th century, knowledge of the principle of hereditary gave farmers new tools for breeding crops and animals. They selected individual organisms with beneficial characteristics and developed hybrids.

Book Review: Biafrans And Onumah’s “Prophecies”

By Ibrahim Ramalan

Title: We Are All Biafrans
Author: Chido Onumah
Publisher: Origami
Year: 2016
Pages: 214

Along the line of my quest for knowledge, I have always come across this cliché that Nigeria is a land of milk and honey: Arable land, mineral resources, and a large and enterprising population;variables that make a nation great. Regrettably and in spite of all of these, we have been in a pitiable situation. WheneverI ruminate over these conundrums, a whole lot of rhetorical questions keep agitating my mind.
